USA Triathlon 2008 Club National Championship and the USAT Halfmax National Championship (Long Course Championship) are headed to Las Vegas.
The races – taking place in Boulder City, just outside of Las Vegas – are slated for October 18th and are the result of an exciting new three-way partnership between USA Triathlon, BBSC Endurance Sports and Ultramax Events.
“We are very proud and excited to host not only the Club Championship again this year, but the huge addition of the USAT Halfmax National Championship Triathlon,†said Brogg Sterrett, owner and race director for BBSC. “With this addition, we expect to see some of the best talent from around the country taking part on this great course. We have so much in store we can hardly wait another 10 months.â€
The day of racing includes three distances: a 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run sprint race, a 1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run intermediate race, and a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run long course race. Members of registered USAT clubs can earn points toward the Club National Championship by competing in any of the three races.
“This format allows clubs to get all their members involved, from the newbies to the experienced long course athletes,†said USAT National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. “They can all play a part in earning points for their club toward the National Championship.â€
The Halfmax National Championship is entering it’s third year and is supported by nearly twenty qualifying events that span the nation. The Halfmax Championship will feature a minimum of 10 slots per age group for Team USAT and the 2009 Long Course Triathlon World Championship. Beginning in 2008, only qualifying athletes will be eligible to compete for the coveted World Championship Slots. Visit www.halfmaxchampionship.com for a complete listing of qualifying events, options and guidelines.
“We are extremely proud and pleased to partner with BBSC Endurance Sports. The new union and move to Las Vegas will exalt the Halfmax Championship concept to the next level,†said Mark Livesay Director of Ultramax Events. “This expansion will amplify the attention surrounding this entirely age-group athlete focused Championship.â€
The event will feature live remote cameras strategically placed throughout the course that enable anyone to log onto bbscendurancesports.com to watch their families and friends compete. A roaming film crew will also be capturing the action.
A two-day exposition that includes music, food, and exhibitors from some of triathlon’s most respected names is on the weekend agenda as is an Aquabike (swim, bike) competition.
The 2006 Club Nationals at PumpkinMan had approximately 1,000 athletes registered, making it the largest USAT Club Nationals to date. This year, with the addition of the Halfmax Championship, the numbers are expected to quickly jump to the limit of 1,500 athletes.
All triathlon clubs can also book free space at the expo. Contact race@bbscendurancesports.com for more information.
