Randall Olsen and Sue Pope won the Olympic distance event at the Kokopelli Triathlon, held at Sand Hollow Reservoir on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Chris Fetter and Carpice Schwarzwalder won the Sprint distance event.
Olsen completed the Olympic course in two hours, 12 minutes and 20 seconds. His time gave him a three minute advantage over runner-up, Devan Tandy. The two had nearly identical splits until the run, when Olsen out-ran Tandy by two minutes.
In the women’s race, Pope beat Rachel Cieslewicz to the finish line by one minute and 12 seconds. Pope’s over-all time of two hours, 32 minutes and five seconds was high-lighted by solid a swim and bike.
The men’s Sprint event ended with Fetter edging out Steve Olsen by 24 seconds. Unlike the men’s race, Schwarzwalder dominated the women’s Spring event by beating runner-up, Shirley Leydsmen by nearly eight minutes.
